St. John's Hunting Club records, 1786-2008.

Records chiefly consist of minutes, correspondence, printed material, and records of two related organizations. A bound volume (1796-1861) entitled "Rules of the St. Stephen's Club Form'd in 1786" contains rules and amended rules, lists of members, and minutes, including an entry (1843) concerning the merger of two clubs, the St. Stephen's Club, and the Upper St. John's Club, into "The United Clubs of St. Stephen's and St. John's." Another bound volume (1802-1817) contains the rules of the Upper St. John's Hunting Club and lists of members. Two bound minute books of the St. John's Hunting Club cover the years 1800 to 1950, and 1950 to 1998. A binder contains correspondence (1936-2008); historical information on the club; property records; minutes of meetings (1956-2007); lists of members (1973-2008); a memorial to club members who died in Confederate service, including Percival Porcher and William Edward Porcher; rules; records of the Board of Stewards; and miscellaneous information. Printed material include histories of the St. John's Hunting Club; an address (1907) by Rev. Robert Wilson; and "Two Diaries From Middle St. John's Berkeley, S.C., Feb.-May, 1865: Journals Kept by Miss Susan R. Jervey and Miss Charlotte St. J. Ravenel" (1921).

Robert Wilson (1838-1924) was a physician who served as a surgeon in the C.S.A. Army during the Civil War and afterwards became an Episcopal minister. He was born in Charleston, S.C., the son of James Mazyck Wilson (1814-1887) and Ann Isabel Gibbes Wilson. His second wife was Ann Jane Shand.
